The Health Benefits of Being More Alkaline

A healthy body is in balance: mineral balance, hormonal balance and acid-base balance. Plants do not thrive in acidic soil. Fish require a specific pH in order to survive their aquatic environment. Humans require a blood pH range of 7.35 to 7.45. A shift of 0.2 would have deadly consequences!

As early as 1933, the concept of acid/alkaline balance was being investigated. In a report published by Dr. William Howard Hay of New York, he theorized that all disease is caused by “self-poisoning” due to acid accumulation in the body.

We need to understand the difference between stomach (gastric) acid and systemic acidity. Gastric acid is important for the breakdown of fats, carbohydrates and proteins.
